Stan # 13: Toilet habits ... and a quiz 13 July 1998

Research from the United States shows that men spend an average of 35 seconds in the toilet and women 91. Sadly, I have no more details, so I can only speculate on the reasons for this discrepancy. Do women have larger bladders? Do men rush to the bog at every opportunity whereas women wait? Do both sexes actually spend the same amount of time emptying their bladders, but women wash their hands afterwards and men do not? Is it more difficult for women to drop their knickers than for men to unzip or unbutton their flies? Do men just rush in and out whereas women linger to enjoy the experience? And if so, what do they do with those extra 56 seconds? Is this purely an American phenomenon? Do these averages include bowel emptying? If so, there must be a lot of quick male pees. And the question on your lips right now? Who's interested? Well, these two figures were used as an argument for more cubicles in the ladies to reduce queueing (standing in line). If there are roughly equal numbers of the two sexes in a particular public place, then there should be more ladies loos than mens, the argument runs. Lateral thinking has given me a number of ideas to equal up the amount of time the two sexes spend in the toilet, but I think I will leave you to ponder this challenge yourselves - maybe next time you are 'pointing percy at the porcelain' and trying to melt those yellow sugar cubes or white polo mints or just sitting idly staring at the grafitti ('My mother made me a lesbian'. 'If I gave her some wool, do you think she could make me one?') etc.

From 1940 to 1981, the leading weather related killers in the United States have been: lightning, 7741; tornadoes, 5268; floods, 4481; hurricanes, 1923. This excludes heat related deaths for which evidence is difficult to obtain.

Here is a quiz from the Data Dormouse, consider it carefully. Things are not always what they seem.... Answers in my next missive.
